Blurb:

Reverend Deborah Reynolds wasn't expecting to fall for—or over—Sam Perry, one of the groomsmen at the wedding she was officiating. But when Sam answered her door early the next morning and greeted the biggest gossip in town, Deborah found herself in hot water with her congregation. She never imagined that soon after she would be flying cross-country with Sam and broadening her horizons by visiting a nudist beach, learning the paths of ants, and falling in love. But there were still her life and vocation at home to consider. Ministers don't believe in Prince Charming, don't wear brightly-colored lipstick, and certainly don't steal kisses in the church pantry!

Review:

When Reverend Deborah Reynolds started her job in small town Mississippi, she knew it would be a quite life and her only source of excitement would more than likely be regulated to the busy bodies of the church. now a few years later some part of her job are par for the course and some goes way beyond the call of duty and both of those are how she finds herself currently the headline of the local gossip mill…

Because, yes

The Reverend was having an affair…

with unknown man …

Nosey church member saw said man in wee hours of the morning in the Reverend home

Said mans car was parked in front of her drive all night…

But no matter how much Deborah deny the claim it just kept mushrooming… Probably because she left out one thing.

Said man did kiss the Reverend.

The man in question is none other than Sam Perry, groomsman number three to be exact at the wedding that Deborah was officiating that weekend.  From the moment they meet there was something between them, but Deborah full of pride and worried about what the “locals” will think of her makes every effort to push Sam away.

Sam on the other hand knows what he wants and his prepared to take his time and put in his all to at least make the first step. With a whole lot of luck and good friends – he gets a head start when Deborah ends up flying back to British Columbia with him where she ends up having a whale of a time. But despite this Deborah is not as convinced that anything can come from those insane happy few days…

But what she did not count on was,

Said man wants her for keeps,

Nosey neighbors and friends wants’ said man to have her for keeps,

And everything just seems to be conspiring against her having her way.

When I got this book to review I dragged my feet on it to my regret, THE CLERGY AFFAIR was excellent, not only was it a fun read but it had so many slices of reality in it that I could have sworn I was at home.

The book starts off with Deborah at her best and doing her best work even it was over and beyond the call of duty; and soon after than it comically went downhill and  I was laughing my head off.

Deborah is the staid local revered that not everyone has taken her to their heart. Some accept her unconditionally and some only for the nature of her office and no further and there in lays the problem, because Deborah has more or less forgotten that she is a woman first and tries to please everyone at all time and forgotten the essence of who she is.

Sam however sees the woman first and is very much open to everything that makes up Deborah. With only one chance to make an impression on her – he gets her on his patch and with some irreverent friends and scandalous going on’s Deborah let the woman in her free.

Ms Johnson has put together a wonderful set of characters in this books and she has made me laugh, really laughed. I joined in the antics of the most fun loving set of woman that I have met in a long time and I totally had fun with this book… I also got totally pissed off at small town narrow-mindedness but there is always one who is not shy about telling it as it is and I could see light at the end of the tunnel for Deborah and Sam.

If you are looking for that read that will give you chance to see old fashion love at work and nosey meddling neighbours having the best and worst of time this is the book for you. Small town America has never been more fun or scarier to be honest – Ms. Johnson did a wonderful job with the pace and the dynamics of the casts that she put together. I was sorry to leave these people and  the antics that they got up to at the drop of a hat.
