When
fledging London reporter, Lindsay Wyngate, is handed the assignment of her life
– to write an article about handsome oil magnate Trevor Carlton, she is
intrigued to learn that the interview requires her to spend a long summer
weekend at Trevor’s Yorkshire country estate.
The
intrigue intensifies as Trevor escorts Lindsay around the grounds of his
rambling estate. Despite a nearly disastrous horseback ride, their mutual
attraction deepens at the society event of the summer. What starts out as a
chance to further her career by interviewing a mysterious man, who distrusts
her as much as she distrusts him, turns into more. Will Lindsay’s discoveries
about Trevor’s private life and business unexpectedly change his life – and
hers – forever?
Review:
The
typical romance goes as follows: girl
meets guy, they fall in love, some catastrophe threatens to keep them apart,
they triumph in the end. Author, Alexa
Grayson, covers all that and much more in her heartwarming tale, His Weekend
Proposal. At first, I felt that the
story line was somewhat predictable, but when each of my predictions took a new
turn, I realized that Grayson has quite a gift for surprising the reader time
after time.
In
my opinion, the best part of the story is the tremendous character
development. Each character is unique,
yet so life-like. From temperaments to
quirks, each personality brings new life to the story and a smile to the
reader. Lindsay Wyngate is sassy,
spunky, and extremely driven to do whatever it takes to make it to the top,
even if it means being stepped on in the process. Trevor Carlton is suave, arrogant, and
powerful, not to mention vulnerable when it comes to trusting and being
trusted. The secondary characters in the
story are equally realistic, evoking deep emotional responses from the
reader.
The
one part of the story that left me feeling a little disappointed was the
ending. While it was a
happily-ever-after ending, I felt that it was a bit rushed. The story was rolling along, and then very
abruptly, it was over. I found myself
staring at the last page and saying, “That's it?” The author may be setting up a sequel to this
story which would justify the sudden ending, but I admit I felt a pang of
longing and disappointment even though all loose ends had been tied up.
Nevertheless,
if you're looking for a quality romance with unpredictable twists and
extraordinary characters, look no further.
His Weekend Proposal is the story for you!
