At the height of the French and Indian War, a young English widow ventures into the colonial frontier in search of a fresh start. She never expects to find it in the arms of the half-Shawnee, half-French warrior who makes her his prisoner in the raging battle to possess a continent––or to be aided by a mysterious white wolf and a holy man.
Review:
This is a fast-paced, cracking ride. It is a great story with loads of things happening one after another. There isn't a flat moment anywhere. The scene is beautifully set and the author takes you right into the historical era and the scenery. You get a real feel for the life and the Anglo-French-Native American war. This author knows her stuff. On the down side, something in the story didn't quite gel for me. I found the interaction / dialogue between some of the characters a bit repetitive and in places just a bit...off. Of course this might not be the case for another reader. I loved the hero Shoka, particularly because he was unapologetic about who he was. I couldn't always sympathize with the heroine though. The secondary characters add to the book without getting in the way of the main characters' story. This is a great read about a captive falling in love with her captor and his love for her and about overcoming all the odds to stay together. If you are looking for something to get your teeth into, a good, solid read that will take you on a roller-coaster ride then this is for you.
