Blurb: Living in a divorce
situation has never been easy on any of the Russells, but lately Kevin feels
like the invisible sibling. Things only get worse when Melena, the only one in
his family he can count on, decides to get married and move out of state. So
when gorgeous Janessa Blackington shows interest, he's hooked. But dating the wild
girl will come at a high price that could cost him his dreams and possibly his
life. Is he willing to take that risk just to feel loved? Or could there be
something better right under his nose that will only cost him his heart?
Review:
I began reading this with no idea of what I was getting. I was
hooked from the very beginning and drawn into the story by the effective way
that Ms Mendoza draws characters, sets the scenes and builds the plot. Her
dialogue is excellent, very natural and smooth. Her story telling is seamless.
As the story developed it didn’t matter to me that it was aimed at young
adults. Her writing made it possible for me to identify with the main character
despite him being a fourteen year old boy.
Stories
with a strong Christian theme can sometimes be ‘preachy’ and moralistic which
puts some people off. Ms Mendoza avoids those pitfalls, and weaves in the
religious aspects creating a beautiful whole. She writes a story that is a
rollercoaster ride, fast in pace and jam packed with action and character
development. I found myself gobbling up this book, eager to see where the next
page would take me, loving the hero Kevin’s vulnerability and growth as he
comes to terms with who he is and finds a partner who is spiritually
compatible.
This
is an enjoyable read no matter what your age, gender and religious beliefs. I
can thoroughly recommend it.
