Boxes and Other Obstacles by Carol Shenold

Boxes and other Obstacles by Carol Shenold

Welcome to my blog, “Boxes and Other Obstacles. As writers we deal with all kinds of boxes. Often we feel boxed in, boxed out, caught in a box. What we have to do is find a way to think outside that box, change the box into a circle or diamond. Our career is a solitary one, full of rejection, beating our head against the wall (there’s that box again) and trying to find our way to the writing life we want.

Why am I writing this? Because I’m a writer too. I’ve been writing for several years, reached

several goals along the way, missed on others. I have had short fiction and nonfiction published. I’ve had book length nonfiction published. I have two paranormal mysteries published as ebooks, “Privy to Murder” and “Bloody Murder.” I’ve had fiction and nonfiction in anthologies like Chicken Soup. I’ve been rejected.

Also, I have three children, thirteen grandchildren, a handi-capped daughter at home and I work full time. So I know where you’re coming from as far as more to do than time to write.

I’ll be visiting here with you at Between the Lines on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.

Right now, much as everyone else, I have to decide what direction to push my career in next, what I have control over.

If the genre I’m writing now isn’t selling, what next?

If the luster has worn off the idea of writing, what do I do?

When life interferes how to I get back on track?

How do I juggle everything I do?

Time? Nuff said.

Come join me for the ride as we discover together how to take the leap of faith, what we really want for our careers and writing.

As writers, we are capable of being our own worst enemies. Oh, we blame it on friends, families, markets, agents or publishers, but it all comes back to us in the end, our persistence and pure stubbornness.

Let’s hop right out of those boxes and move forward. “Til next time.
